Indonesian territory consists of thousands of islands with a variety of habitats that have become rich regions animal life because of two things :
- First Indonesian region includes two areas of the world fauna distribution, namely the Oriental region spread over a large Sunda islands, including Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java and Bali. While for the Australian territory of Papua and the island of Aru Islands. Indonesian territory to gain much benefit from the movement done by the animals from both regions. But the boundary between two regions is uncertain. The islands are located in the center of both the Oriental and Australian regions of Sulawesi, Maluku and Nusa Tenggara became a meeting place for both regions.
- Indonesia has the world's mammal species, 12%, 16% of reptiles and amphibians and 17% of the bird world. In addition there are many endemic species including 430 types of 2500 species of birds and 200 species of mammals, 500 species.
- Interesting feature of Indonesia is the level of endemic species are found. Many groups of animals experiencing extraordinary distribution. That's because the absence of predators and competitors such as rats in Sulawesi, rainbow fish in eastern Indonesia, and birds of paradise and butterfly wings of birds in New Guinea.
